2009 Camp Pendleton Hard Corp Marathon

How do you recover from running the Boston Marathon? sign up for another marathon 5 days later. Pure genius!

I decided that my Marathon Maniac status, though well deserved by completing 2 Ultra Marathons and 1 Marathon in 77 days, needed an update. Alright, so big whoopty doo, I know others have done far more extreme streaks but this is my first, so bear with me. With my ongoing cycle of train-race-injury, successfully completing 2 marathons in 5 days, injury free, is a huge feat for me!

It was a perfect day starting out...sunny, 57 degrees. Last minute, I decided to take off my long sleeve and put on my Marathon Maniac racing singlet that I have never worn. That was probably a great move since it was warming up. I thought this course was going to be a nice flat recovery race, so I skipped our group 30mile run in favor of Hard Corp. I was wrong. I felt like if I wasn't going up, I was going MORE UP. gah. The winds were more than I'd usually volunteer for, coming in 20+mph gusts for the entire first half and other parts later in the race.

I was heading straight for a digression run as opposed to a PRO-gression run when you aim to slowly speed up, I was clocking progressively slower miles. Midway, I was thinking I'd come in under 3:40 but as I hit mile 20, I stopped looking at my watch and started picking off the female competition. I passed 8-10 women that last 10k and tons of guys, many bent over rubbing out cramps or staggering with them.

I finished with a 3:41:50 and won 3rd in the 35-39yo Age Group. How's that for a small race! I even got some extra hardware for that title!

You guys are all amazing. I'm here trying to figure out how to break 2 hours in a half, and you're running sub 4s on back to back weekends! Congratulations on the bling Jennifer!
